First DIVERSITAS Open Science Conference "Integrating biodiversity science for human well being"
9-12 November 2005; Hotel Mision de Los Angeles - Oaxaca, Mexico
Bringing together international experts from biological, ecological and socio-economic disciplines, the First DIVERSITAS Open Science Conference will be entirely dedicated to the most pressing questions in biodiversity science:
- How is biodiversity changing and why?
- inventorying biodiversity,
- bioinformatics,
- monitoring,
- drivers of biodiversity changes
- What are the consequences of biodiversity changes for ecosystems and for the delivery of ecosystem services?
- biodiversity and ecosystem functioning,
- linking ecosystem functioning to ecosystem services
- What can we do to promote sustainable use of biodiversity and improve human well-being?
- assessing current conservation measures,
- decision making under uncertainty,
- economic incentives
The main themes of the Conference will reflect DIVERSITAS' Scientific Core Projects bioDISCOVERY, ecoSERVICES and bioSUSTAINABILITY as well as its cross-cutting networks on urban biodiversity, mountain biodiversity, agrobiodiversity, freshwater biodiversity, biodiversity changes and human health, etc.
A set of exciting field trips in the rich Oaxaca surroundings will be available. DIVERSITAS encourages broad participation of scientists from developing countries.
